- What POS/register systems support this program?
- Currently, RATEX and Booklog are the POS systems/registers that support this program.
Additional POS vendors will be added for the Fall 2007 term. Also in
development is a program that will not require support at the register.
- What needs to be done to prepare my POS system and registers for this eBook program?
- Please contact the respective product support center for the POS system you have
in your store, i.e. RATEX or Booklog.
- How do I sign up for the Follett eBook program?
- How many eBook titles are available?
- Currently, over 1100 titles are available in eBook format, and we are working
continuously to add additional titles and publishers to our eBook program.
- Which publishers support the eBook program?
- Houghton Mifflin
- Thomson
- Mc Graw Hill
- Pearson (study guides)
- What is the bookstore’s price for an eBook?
- The net price for each eBook is shown on the eBook List on the follettbooks.com web site.
- How are pricing and margins set?
- While net prices will vary by publisher, most titles can be priced 15-20% below
used book prices and still yield a 15-20% margin
- Will Follett provide marketing support?
- In addition to the eBook cards, Follett will provide all of the in-store display
materials you will need to let your customers know about this exciting new offering,
including:
- Signage, both 22x28 inch posters and static clings
- Display holders for the eBook cards
- An instruction sheet to ensure ideal placement of the materials
- Do eBooks present any loss prevention concerns?
- By creating eBook cards which cannot be activated until the point of purchase, security
concerns and losses due to shrink are minimized. The eBook card has no value until it is coupled with a PIN at the time of sale in your store.
Upon purchase, a PIN is assigned which allows the buyer to access the digital content.
- How many eBook cards per title would you suggest ordering?
- This is certainly up to your course materials department, but we would suggest
that you order 10% of the number of units of a title that you will stock.
- How are refunds of eBooks handled?
- You can establish the refund policy which suits your college store. To aid you
in making your refund decision, Follett has created a website which allows you
to determine which PIN have been used to download the digital content. In
addition, the site allows you to disable any PIN for all refunded
cards to ensure that the content is not downloaded after the refund is made. The
website address and logins for refunds will be given to you after the sign-up process
has been completed.
- How is the Bookstore invoiced for the eBook titles sold?
- Follett will invoice
the bookstore for the eBooks sold and credit the bookstore for any refunds.
- What is the entire process for the Bookstore to sell eBooks?
- The Bookstore will contact their POS vendor to obtain the eBook POS upgrade.
- The Bookstore will contact Follett Customer Service to sign-up/register for the eBook program. Follett will register the bookstore and obtain the necessary login and passwords for the bookstore. The Bookstore will be sent via email their logins for the program.
- The Bookstore will place an order with Follett for eBook cards on follettbooks.com. The store will be sent the eBook cards, along with signage, card holders, and instructions.
- Once the cards have been received, then the Bookstore will place the UPC code of the eBook titles they are selling on each card and display them on the shelf next to the actual textbook. At the same time, the bookstore will determine their selling price for each eBook title and enter the UPC code, retail selling price, etc. into their POS system.
- The store’s POS system and the cards should now be ready to complete a sale as follows.
- The customer will bring an eBook card to the register.
- The UPC code will be scanned at the register. The POS system will find the matching item in the POS system. The POS system will contact the PIN server to obtain the store ID (SAN) number, transaction #, and Content ID.
- The PIN server will respond with a PIN will be printed on the register receipt, which is given to the customer.
- The customer will take the receipt, and will go the web site for downloads.
- The student will download a test file and then will be prompted to download of the entire eBook. The student can only download once.
- In the meantime, an eBook sale has been recorded to the Bookstore for billing purposes.
- Follett will invoice the Bookstore for the eBooks sold and refunded.
